Atankadarpana is a commentary on Madhavanidana,by Vacaspati, son of Pramoda and younger brother of Rais’arma. Pramoda was the chief physician at the court of King Hamir and Rais’arma lived at the court of Sultan Muhamed, probabley Muhamed Ghori who reigned at Dehli from 1193 to 1206 A. D. See Hoernle,Osteology, p. 17. This is probably the same as the physician Vacaspati who is quoted in Virasinhavaloka. See Bod. Cata., No. 746; I. 0.,Nos. 2662-67 &c. Vacaspati quotes Kartika, Gadadhara, Gayadasa,Jagadvaidyaka, Jejjata, Drdhabala, Bhoja andVideha, and was well-versed in the Sankhya,Vedanta and Vais’esika S'astras. (See v. 7below.)Another Vacaspati, a much older writer, the author of Sankhyatatvakaumudi and Bhamati, had finished his Nyayasucinibandha in 898. |
