Katantra Vykarana, also falled Kalapaka or Kaumara, is ascribed to S’arvavarman, to whom the system was expounded by Kumara; for the story of the origin of the work, cf. Kathasaritsagara, Lamb. I, Taranga 7, vv.10-13. For information about the gramar, its commentaries and age (about 300 A. D.), see Winternitz, Geschichte, III. pp. 397-398 ; Belwalkar, Systems of Grammar, pp. 81-91; V. A. Smith, Z. D. M. G., 56, p. 660. In the present manuscript, only the sandhiportion of it is given and is accompanied by a commentary called Katantra-Rupamala by a Jain writer Bhavasena. A MS. of this commentary (Peterson, Reports, 111 No. 248.) is dated Samvat 1535. For other commentaries on the work, see I. O., Nos. 730 to 759; Weber, II. pp. 199-200. |
