Sanjnatantra or the first part of Nilakantha’s manual of Astronomy. This part consists of three sections. The second part is called Varsatantra for which see previous number. Nilakantha was the son of Ananta and Padma and the grandson of Cintamani, and composed this work in 1587 A. D. See Diksit, p. 275; Weber,Indische Studien, II. p. 253; I. O., No. 3045;Bod. Cata., No. 1562. The author’s son Govinda wrote'a commentary on this work (cf. Ulwar Cata., Extract No. 502 ) in A. D. 1622, in which he says that Nilakantha was honoured by Emperor Akabar and had composed Todarananda and this work and that Nilakantha's younger brother Rama had also composed Rimavinoda for Ramapala, a minister of Akabar, in A.
