Notes/Description : Yogayatra is a work on the same subject by Varahamihira. It cannot be said, however, to be an abridgment of the Brhadyogayatra in the strictest sense of the word. Both have nearly the same number of s'lokas, which are, however, not identical, even when treating of the same subject. Yogayatra contains 16 adhyayas.Utpala, the commentator, knew both the Yatras; on fol. 8b, he remarks:- Utpala composed his commentary on Brhajjataka in A. D. 966 (see above No. 367 ); in his commentary on Satpancas’ika, (No. 339 above ), he quotes Brhaspatijataka, Krsnakevalika and his own work called Pras’najnana. He also quotes a verse from some Prakrt work on the subject, probably of Jain origin. In the present commentary, he often quotes from Badarayana, the author of a metrical treatise on this subject, and also a verse, defining the Ananvaya Alankara from Rudrata’s Kavyalankara. The text of Yogayatra, with German translation(only the first nine adhyayas ) was published by H. Kern, in Ind. Studi., vols. X, XIV and XV. See I. O., No. 2990; Peterson, Reports, I. p.100; and Mitra, Notices, I. p. 28.
