Notes/Description : S’akunanirnaya also called S'akuna, is a work on omens, by Vasantaraja, son of S’ivaraja. Cf. I. O., No. 3106.; Bod. Cat., No. 1581. Peterson,Ulwar Cat, p. 84, No. 1977 says that the work was written at the request of Candradeva of Mithila. Vasantaraja’s S’akuna was used in his Adbhutasagara, begun in 1168 A. D., by King Ballalasena of Gauda, who had also written his Danasagara early in that same year; cf. I. O.,No. 1704 for Danasagara and Bhandarkar, Report,1887-91, p. LXXXIV for a quotation from the Adbhutasagara giving the works used by Ballalasena in it. Some of these, in addition to our S'akuna are :—Brahmasiddhanta, Kalavali, Su-ryasiddhanta, S’alihotra, Visnugupta, Palakapya,Mayuracitra, Varahamihira and the Markandeya,Skanda, Bhagavata, Agni, Padma, Matsya and Visnudharmottara Puranas.
