Vakyapadiya of Bhartrhari, whose literary activities are to be ascribed to the first half of the seventh century A. D., as he is mentioned as having died in 651—52 A. D. by the Chinese traveller Itsing; (cf. Itsing, translated by J. Tekakusu,p. 178.) accompanied by the commentary of Punyaraja. The MS. contains only the second of the three kandas. The whole is published in the Benaras S. S., with the commentary of Punyaraja on the first two kandas and that of Helaraja on the third. It appears that Punyraja never completed his work. For Bhartrhari, see Ind. Anti, XII. p; 226; J. B.B. R. A. S., vol. XVIII. p. 341ff; Belwalkar,Systems, p. 40; Winternitz, Geschichte, III. pp.138-42. |
