Notes/Description : Praksoma portion of the Manava S'rautasutra. For an account of the complete work, see Dr. Schroeder, Maitrayaniya Sanhita, Intro., p. 41 and Dr. Bradke, Z. D. M. G., vol. 36, p. 445-50. We have got all the different parts of the Manava S’rautasutra in our collection. The arrangement of these in this catalogue is as far as possible, based upon that of MS. M2 of Bradke which is as follows:—( I ) Praksoma,( II ) Agnistoma, ( III ) Prayas'citta ( IV ) Pravargyakalpa,( V ) Istikalpa, ( VI ) Cayanakalpa, ( VII ) Vajapeya, ( VIII ) Anugrahah, ( IX ) Rajasuya, ( X ) S'ulva : 1 S'ulva, 2 Uttarestaka, 3 Vaisnava, ( XI ) Paris'ista : 1 Pratigrahakalpa, 2 Muladijatas'anti, 3 Yamalas'anti, 4 As’lesavidhi, 5 Sadantotpattis’anti according to Visnudharmottara Purana, 7 Rudrajapavidhanakalpa, 8 Pravaradhyaya. Our MSS. however, appear to have followed a totally different order of the several parts, which also differs from that of MS. No. 761 of the Asiat. Soc. of Bengal Collection (see Bradke,Z. D. M. G., 36, p. 448 ). The different parts in our collection are as a rule separately paged, yet the pagination is continuous in the case of some.At the end of No. 526, the order of the first five parts is given as follows:—I Praksoma,II Agnistoma, III Istikalpa, IV Vajapeya, VCayana. In No. 533, the following parts are continuously paged :—I Cayana, II Vajapeya, III Prayas'citta. In No. 535, Pravargya and Rajasuya are continuously paged. In No. 538, Pravaradhyaya and S’raddhakalpa are continuously paged. The order of the chapters of X and XI is however the same, though ( XI has been wrongly placed by me under Grhyasutras; see below No. 657) XI, 8 i. e. Pravaradhyaya is counted as a separate part in our MSS.Our MSS. also contain an additional part i.e. S’raddhakalpa which is not found in Bradke’s MSS.; see below Nos. 538 and 654 (the latter placed under Grhyasutras through mistake).Praksoma contains 8 Adhyayas having 3, 6, 5,3, 6, 5, 7 and 6 sections respectively.
