प्रयोगसार of केशवस्वामी. (दर्शपौर्णमास.)

Resource Type : Manuscript
Subject : Vedic Ritual
Script : Fair Devanagari Handwriting
Notes/Description : The MS. is not dated; but the paper, handwriting and general appearance of it leave no doubt that it is the first part of the MS. noticed under the next number.Prayogasara is a manual of the vedic rites composed by Kes'avasvami who follows Narayana and Bhavasvami and quotes a Karika (2nd of the Anvarambhani Karikas, see above No. 672 )from Gopala (in the next number). Kes’ava himself is quoted by Trikandamandana, which again is quobed by Hemadri. Thus Kes'ava must have flourished before the twelth century A. D.See above No. 509 and Bhandarkar, Report,1883-84, p.31.It is to be noted here, that Bhavasvami who is the model of our kes'ava is a very ancient writer. He a quoted in the Gopalakarikas from which our Kes’ava quotes; see above No. 572. Kes’ava’s Prayogasara is based upon the Baudhayanasutra, especially upon the Dvaidhasutra portion of it. The present MS. contains the first Pras'na of the Prayogasara; it treats of the Dars'apurnamasa. The MS. in the next number contains the second, third and fourth Pras'nas which treat of Adhana and Agnihotra. For another MS., cf. I. O., No. 370; and Burnell Tanjore MSS., p. 19.
