Notes/Description : Amarakos’a with the commentary of Ksiraswamin who lived in the eleventh century A. D.This Ksiraswamin cannot be identical with the grammarian Ksira who flourished under King Jayapida (8th century) and is mentioned at Rajatarangini, IV. 489, since the former quotes the dramatist Rajas’ekhara and Bhoja. See Winternitz, Geschichte, III. p. 412. Both the text and the commentary are often published.Another well-known commentator of Amarakos’a is Brhaspati Rayamukutamani who wrote a Commentary in 1431 A. D., based on 16 differnt commentaries amongst which Ksiraswami's was one. See Bhandarkar, Report, 1883-84, pp.61-62. Also of. I. 0., Nos. 947-985 (especi.952-53 ); Bodleian Catalogue, No. 1101, and Burnell, Tanjore MSS., p. 44b, 45a; in this last place a quotation from ‘Aufrecht (Z. D. M. G.,XXVIII. p. 105 ff.), containing a list of authorities cited by Ksiraswamin is given.
